Sigiriya 💫

Sigiriya, also known as the “Lion Rock” is an ancient rock fortress located in central Sri Lanka. Sigiriya stands as a symbol of Sri Lanka’s rich history, culture and architectural brilliance. Sigiriya’s history dates back to the 5 th century, when it build by king Kashyapa. The site was transformed into a majestic palace complex, complete with lush gardens, water features and impressive frescoes. The climb to the top of the rock is an adventurous journey, with visitors passing through a series of walkways, staircases and platforms, each offering a glimpse into the grandeur of the ancient city.

Another remarkable feature of Sigiriya is its frescoes, which are found on the western face of the rock. These vibrant paintings depict celestial nymphs believed to be divine attendants of the gods. The art is considered a fine example of ancient Sri Lankan painting and it serves as a testament to the creativity and skill of the artisans.
